Fugitive captured in Lyon County after brief manhunt

A fugitive was captured on Sunday in eastern Lyon County after a brief manhunt.

The Lyon County Sheriff's office and Kentucky State Police began a search earlier on Sunday for Jeffry Copas. Police alerted the public to be aware that Copas had last been seen at about 12:30 p.m. on Calhoun Road near I-69 Exit 71. 

Authorities warned residents that Copas had a history of breaking into homes and stealing automobiles. They also warned that Copas may have been in possession of a firearm. 

Copas’ vehicle was located at a home when the property owners returned, but Copas had apparently fled on foot before they arrived. 

At 2 p.m. the sheriff's office posted that Copas had been captured by a deputy just off Winters Road.
