A report from the National Transportation Safety Board says misfueling was the probable cause leading to a plane crash in Fulton on August 21st.

According to KYTN, the crash of a Cessna 421 in a field near the Fulton Airport resulted in two serious injuries and two minor injuries.

The report stated a first responder on the scene sampled fuel from the plane, and learned there was no color to the fuel which also smelled like diesel.

A post accident interview with the fueler at the departure airport confirmed that he had topped off the plane with “pre-mixed Jet-A”.

A receipt from the airport manager, signed by the pilot, indicated the plane received 145 gallons of fuel.

The pilot reported engine problems that resulted in the plane not being able to maintain altitude and led to a forced landing in the field, with the plane sustaining substantial damage.
