The region's weeklong heat advisory is gradually shrinking and moving eastward.
Earlier this week, more than two dozen states in the eastern U.S. were included. Now, the advisory is centered from northeast Arkansas to Indiana and Ohio. The entire state of Kentucky is still included.
The St. Louis metro, which earlier had its own extreme heat warning, has now come out of the advisory.
The rest of the quad state could officially wrap up the advisory as of this evening, if no extension is issued by the National Weather Service.
Isolated to scattered showers and storms will increase in coverage over the weekend and into Monday. Where storms occur, torrential downpours, lightning, and some gusty winds will be possible.
Temperatures will return to near normal by the middle of next week, accompanied by lower humidity. Paducah's average high for July 1 is 89 degrees, and 90 for the rest of the month.
