I-57 closed in southern Illinois overnight as bridge is demolished

Drivers heading into southern Illinois tonight will encounter a closure of Interstate 57 between exit 65 and exit 59 in Williamson and Franklin counties.

Crews are working all night tonight to demolish an overpass at Stiritz Road just north of Johnston City.

A marked detour is in place to guide interstate traffic along Illinois 37 for both directions.

Flaggers, message boards, and traffic control devices will direct motorists until all lanes are scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Monday morning.
