A Benton, IL man was arrested this week after passing a bad check on the purchase of a boat.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said they were contacted Tuesday afternoon by a local business concerning a boat that was purchased with a bad check.
The suspect, 24-year-old Travis Richemann gave the business a check for $160,000 for the purchase of a 24 foot boat. Several days later, the business was informed that the funds were insufficient.
While investigating, deputies were contacted by a manager stating he had been contacted by a citizen in Illinois.
The citizen was inquiring about the boat and was familiar with Riechmann. Deputies also learned that the boat had been seen on Rend Lake in IL, 20-30 minutes prior to the citizen calling.
McCracken County deputies then contacted Franklin County, IL deputies who knew about the boat and Riechmann. Franklin County deputies located the boat in a slip at a marina and later located the Riechmann.
Riechmann was charged in Illinois for possession of a stolen vehicle. The boat and trailer were returned to the business from which it was purchased.
Riechmann could also face McCracken County charges in the case.
