The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet held a public information meeting Tuesday showing the final plans for reconstruction of US 641 from Eddyville to the Caldwell-Crittenden county line at Fredonia.

Nearly 100 people attended the meeting at the Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

The plan calls for the road to run along the edge of the West Kentucky Correctional Farm Center and along old railroad right-of-way to limit the land that will need to be secured for the project.

The current section of US 641 has a crash rate that is above the state average, and is not an official state truck route. The new route will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety with wider lanes and allow for better freight movement required to allow larger industries to locate there.

This segment, under study for the past 15 years, will link to improvements already built on US 641 to Marion. It's part of the overall project for updating the entire length of 641 through Murray to Tennessee.

KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat said, "We continue to need public input to help tweak some things to produce the best project possible. We appreciate everyone who took time to participate in this meeting to provide feedback."

Written comments may also be submitted by mail before August 15 to Kyle Poat, KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd, Paducah, KY 42003.

Information will be available online after the meeting date at www.641connect.com
