A man arrested in connection to the death of an elderly Kuttawa woman was in court Friday.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, 50-year-old William Hammonds appeared for a preliminary hearing. His case was bound to a grand jury, and his bond was increased from $50,000 to $100,000.

Hammonds was arrested October 11 on a charge of wantonly abusing or neglecting an adult after deputies and EMS were called to a home on KY 295 where they found Virginia Bozarth injured and allegedly malnourished, dehydrated, and septic.

Bozarth was said to have life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to those injuries.

Hammonds was reportedly the only caretaker for Bozarth at the time of the incident. He remains in the Crittenden County jail.
