A western Kentucky woman was arrested Friday for allegedly pepper spraying a DoorDash order she delivered a week ago in Indiana.
According to Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Kourtney Stevenson was arrested by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
Vanderburgh sheriff’s deputies said that on December 7, a man reported that he and his wife ordered food through DoorDash shortly after midnight.
After eating the food, he said they both experienced a burning sensation in their mouth, nose, throat and stomachs, and also began vomiting.
Doorbell video showed the DoorDash driver place the food off camera on the porch and take a picture. The DoorDasher allegedly sprayed something from a small aerosol can attached to her keychain in the direction of the food, then left.
The video was turned into detectives who accessed DoorDash data to identify the driver as Stevenson.
Investigators learned Stevenson lived near Paducah, contacted her for an interview and she agreed.
During the initial phone call, they said Stevenson told them she had been in Evansville visiting her father and was working for DoorDash during her stay.
They said she told them she used pepper spray, not on the food, but to spray a spider she said she saw while making the delivery.
The sheriff’s office maintains that the overnight low that night was 35 degrees. They said at that time and temperature, outdoor spiders in Indiana are not active.
Investigators said Stevenson called back later and told them she was not going to come in for an interview as scheduled.
Detectives then got an arrest warrant for Stevenson and contacted authorities in McCracken County, who made the arrest.
She’s charged in Indiana with two counts of felony battering resulting in moderate injury and two counts of felony consumer product tampering.
Stevenson is being held pending extradition to Indiana.
