Longest heatwave of summer won't break until next Friday

Extreme heat continues this weekend for the entire region, and more heat will linger through most of next week.

The National Weather Service says this looks to be our longest lasting heatwave of the summer, extending over 8 or 9 days of highs well into the 90s and even reaching 100 in places this weekend.

Night time will bring no real relief. We might set some records for warmest weekend low temperatures in the upper 70s.

Paducah saw a high of 95 on Friday, and the forecast calls for highs right at 100 on Saturday and 101 for parts of the area on Sunday.

The extreme heat warning for the region will expire on Sunday evening, but heat index readings could still exceed 100 next week, especially on Wednesday.

Finally, by Friday much cooler air is forecast to move in with temperatures falling into the mid 80s. Paducah's average daily high next week is still 90.
