A man allegedly with weapons was injured as a result of an officer-involved shooting on Monday in Dyer County, Tennessee.

Police in Newbern, Tennessee, were looking for a vehicle that had been stolen from that community, which reportedly had several weapons inside. Just after 10 p.m. on Monday, Newbern Police spotted a vehicle matching the description and attempted to pull it over, but the driver fled. The pursuit crossed into Gibson County and then back into Dyer County, where stopsticks were deployed. After a thirty-minute pursuit, they ultimately brought the vehicle to a stop.

Once the vehicle was stopped, the driver allegedly showed a rifle. That’s when two deputies fired at the suspect, wounding him. The 44-year-old male suspect was flown to a hospital in Memphis for treatment.

The officers were not injured.

According to department policy, and at the request of District Attorney General Danny Goodman, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the investigation into the shooting. The TBI said they are merely fact-finders and do not render judgment on any justification for the shooting.
