KYTN reports that Martin Fire Chief Jamie Summers presented Firefighter Thomas Sims with the department's Life-Saving Medal.
The presentation was made Monday night at the Martin City Board meeting, and is only the fourth time the award has been given.
Sims was honored for actions taken during an April 17th house fire, when a woman was trapped on the second floor by heavy smoke and flames. He climbed a ladder to reach her through a window, rescued her, and carried her safely down to a waiting EMS crew.
Chief Summers praised Sims for his courage, professionalism, and selfless dedication, saying his actions reflect the very best of the Martin Fire Department.
