Federally funded EV charging station opens in Mayfield

Drivers have a new location to fast-charge their electric vehicle in Graves County. 

The new Mayfield charging station is located at Wagner Wine and Spirits, 1505 West Broadway off Interstate 69.

It's made possible as part of the federally funded National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The station was developed by Francis Energy, who was awarded $875,000 in federal funds for the Mayfield site. It offers four ports capable of charging at up to 400 kilowatts each.

Seventeen of the program's EV charging stations are now open, and 11 more are under construction statewide, using $17.8 million in federal funds to aid each private developer during phase two and three.

The currently funded sites are along the state’s interstates and parkways. On April 13, a charging station was opened in Paducah at Pilot Travel Center. 

Other western Kentucky charging stations are either open or planned for Calvert City, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Nortonville and Dawson Springs.

A fourth round of funding requests are being submitted to include more rural locations away from interstates.

KYTC will not develop, own, operate or maintain the charging stations. Each developer must fund at least 20% of the construction and operational costs, and is required to maintain the operation of the charging station for at least five years.
