McCracken County Jailer David Knight announced his retirement Monday in a written statement.

Knight stated that it had been a pleasure serving as McCracken County Jailer and thanked the voters for trusting him with the job. His retirement will be effective on August 1st.

The statement said that according to Kentucky law, it is the responsibility of McCracken County Judge-Executive Craig Clymer to appoint a replacement. Knight vowed to work with the judge's selection to guarantee a smooth transition.

Knight, who graduated from Livingston Central High School, served in the Marine Corps for six years. In 2002, he joined the McCracken County Sheriff's Office as a deputy, serving for eleven years in the Patrol and Drug Divisions, and was also a SWAT Team Sniper.  In 2013, Knight moved to the McCracken County Regional Jail before being elected Jailer in 2018.
