A Murray man that entered a guilty plea in the 2023 death of a 17-month-old girl was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison.

According to The Murray Sentinel, Calloway County Circuit Judge Andrea Moore sentenced 23-year-old Nathaniel Gibson in accordance with a plea agreement which he entered in May of this year. As part of the agreement, a criminal abuse charge was dismissed.

Gibson and the child's mother, Chyanne Niemeyer, were arrested in October of 2023 after taking the child to Murray-Calloway County Hospital with severe burns. Later, the child was pronounced dead.

Both Gibson and Niemeyer were indicted by a Calloway County Grand Jury for murder and criminal abuse of a child under 12, however their cases were delayed after Niemeyer's competency to stand trial was questioned in December of 2023. Moore ruled in April of 2025 that Niemeyer was competent and the cases were allowed to move forward. Moore also granted a request in October of 2025 to allow separate trials as attorneys for both defendants indicated they planned to implicate each other.

Neimeyer's case is still pending, with her trial scheduled to begin on May 10, 2027.
