The National Weather Service in Paducah said there is enough evidence to show that the season's first tornado occurred in western Kentucky on Saturday morning in Graves County.
Meteorologists said the EF0 tornado occurred at 9:47 am. They said a very narrow tornado or gustnado was embedded on the leading edge of a gust front moving along Elva Loop Road northeast of Symsonia.
The tornado only lasted for three minutes with a path only about ten yards wide. It traveled about two-thirds of a mile, just short of the Marshall County line.
On Saturday afternoon, meteorologists did a survey of the area. They found structural damage and a metal roof blown off of a couple of buildings; a tree uprooted; and doorbell video that shows what appears to be a very narrow 4-to-6 foot wide vortex tracking through the yard, lifting dirt and mud off the ground as it passed.
They estimated peak winds to be about 85 miles per hour.
The survey team said they are checking into a few other locations with sporadic damagel
Other damage reported to the NWS office Saturday included a large section of fence blown down northeast of Lynn Grove in western Calloway County. A tree blocked Highway 94E near Shiloh.
In Trigg County, a metal roof was removed from an industrial building, and there was damage to commercial signage.
