The Purchase District Health Department and the city of Fulton will launch a farmers market on July 22.
The Fulton Farmers Market will be located at 300 Walnut Street. The event will take place from 9 am until noon. Officials said the goal was to provide the region with access to fresh, locally sourced food.
To celebrate the launch, attendees will receive free produce provided in part by WellCare of Kentucky.
A grant previously allowed the health department to provide 350 families with over seven tons of produce. However, when the funds were no longer available, WellCare of Kentucky stepped up to ensure the program would continue.
In addition to the free produce, the public will also receive insulated shopping bags, a local wellness book with health-related information and resources, and a book about food safety.
