The long-awaited Paducah Sports Park is set to host its first tournament this weekend, even as construction continues on part of the facilities.
Officials said that the park will welcome 65 youth baseball teams to play on Saturday and Sunday. Half of the park is said to be open, with the work on the rest of the complex expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Once it's done, the complex will feature 20 artificial turf fields for baseball, softball, soccer and more. An 18-hole disc golf course is included, and the redesign and renovation of Stuart Nelson Park is also taking place between the two main field areas.
Local recreation leagues will also make use of the new facilities. Signups are underway for upcoming youth and adult leagues for softball, soccer, flag football, and ultimate Frisbee.
The more than 100-acre, $65 million development has been years in the making, with a goal to draw sports teams and families from across the Midwest to bolster the Paducah and western Kentucky tourism industry.
