Phone spoofing of Sheriff's Office phone number reported in Pope County

A telephone scam involving the spoofed telephone number of the Pope County Sheriff's Office was reported Thursday.

The Pope County Sheriff's Office says they are getting reports of calls showing the Sheriff's Office name and number, trying to get people to pay a bond, or an imaginary fine.

The Sheriff's office stresses they will never ask for money over the telephone.

They hope no one will fall for this scam, and remind everyone they can always call their office at 618-683-4321 if they have any questions.
