Crash, off-road pursuit lands Murray man behind bars

Reports of a vehicle running off a road ended with an off-road pursuit and charges for a Murray man.

Deputies arrived at the accident in the 9800 block of Highway 94 where they said the vehicle was resting on a tree, with the driver slumped over the steering wheel and his foot on the accelerator.

As deputies attempted to remove 48-year-old Charles M. McPhail from the vehicle, he reportedly became conscious and tried to back the vehicle up, putting deputies in danger.

McPhail allegedly drove through fields and creeks until he arrived at his home, where he was arrested.

He was charged with fleeing or evading, resisting arrest, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and wanton endangerment.
