During a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Paducah Floodwall Mural project, city officials honored long-time project coordinator Ro Morse with the designation of a new Paducah landmark.
The "Ro Morse Promenade" refers to the pathway between the downtown sidewalk and the historic floodwall along the scenic riverfront. On Friday, Mayor George Bray and official muralist Robert Dafford formally announced the naming of the area in honor of Morse.
Morse has been the heart of the floodwall murals since their inception in 1996, coordinating the research, artist communications, and mural maintenance of the more than 50 life-sized portraits along a three-block stretch of the riverfront.
Her mural work has been just a portion of the efforts Morse has made for the city. She has been a tireless advocate for Paducah's heritage, previously working as the city's tourism director and dedicating extensive time to restoring local historical markers.
A native Paducahan, Morse has also been involved in creating and maintaining numerous festivals and traditional events, including Barbecue On the River. She is the author of "Ro's Taste of Paducah" cookbooks.
