A safety check along I-24 in Livingston County turned into an assault arrest for a Louisville man on Monday.
A Kentucky State Police trooper spotted a man walking along the I-24 Cumberland River Bridge near the Livingston and Lyon County line just before 3:30 a.m. Monday. The trooper was concerned for the safety of the man, later identified as 28-year-old Ravon Briggs of Louisville. The trooper wanted to help Briggs get to a safer place, as pedestrians are not allowed to walk along the interstate. Briggs, however, would not follow the officer’s instructions and would not identify himself.
Left with little choice, the trooper tried to take Briggs into custody, but he fought back and assaulted the officer. Briggs was ultimately arrested by the trooper with the help of a citizen who stopped to help. The trooper did suffer what was described as a minor injury.
Briggs was charged with assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, and menacing. A records check also found three outstanding warrants. He was served those and booked in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
