The westbound 18-wheeler caught fire at the 67-mile marker near the Old Hopkinsville Road overpass. Westbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
WKDZ reported that three fire departments assisted in putting out the fire, which burned for almost two hours after the first call came in around 12:15.
A 20-mile long section of I-24 in Trigg and Christiah counties has been particularly plagued with semi fires and collisons over the past week. On August 5 one semi rear-ended another at the 86 mile marker near the construction zone. One driver was extricated from his truck and airlifted to Nashville.
Earlier that same day a semi was a total loss in a fire at the 77 mile marker.
On August 6, two more semis collided near the 87 mile marker. One driver was ejected from his cab and airlifted to Nashville.
