The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal recently awarded $6 million in small equipment grants to 260 fire departments and EMS agencies across Illinois.

The grants, which can total up to $26,000 each, are designed to help agencies purchase small firefighting and ambulance equipment.

Several departments in southern Illinois received funding, including:

• Shawneetown Fire Department — $26,000
• Village of Elizabethtown — $25,760
• Cypress Fire Department — $26,000
• Goreville Fire Department — $26,000
• Joppa Fire Department — $26,000
• Metropolis Fire Department — $17,355.24
• Lake of Egypt Fire Protection District — $26,000
