National Weather Service forecasters say they see "strong signals" that our usual hot and humid August conditions will be replaced next week with cooler and much drier air for several days.

Very humid conditions into the weekend could finally be replaced when a pronounced dip in the jet stream draws Canadian air into the Ohio Valley starting on Sunday evening.

High temperatures could be as low as 80 during afternoons next week, and morning lows could even feel a bit brisk with a few locations dipping into the upper 50s.

Normal highs for this time in August are usually 89 degrees, and the low temperature averages 67. Temperatures in the past week have been near normal, but oppressive humidity has driven the heat index to triple digits, and kept morning lows in the muggy upper 70s.

After Friday's chance for rain, no significant precipitation is anticipated for most of next week.
