A three-vehicle head-on crash on the Brookport Bridge sent two to the hospital on Monday afternoon and sent one man to jail.
The crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. when a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Francine Jeffords was traveling northbound when she reportedly came upon a stalled vehicle in her lane. According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, Jeffords swerved to the left to avoid the stalled vehicle but hit an oncoming southbound vehicle head-on.
Jeffords vehicle and the southbound vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Shavon Ferrell of Aurora, Illinois, also collided with the stalled vehicle driven by 40-year-old Brandon Evans of Metropolis. Evans was not injured, but Jeffords and Ferrell were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four juveniles in Jeffords vehicle were also not injured.
During the investigation, deputies discovered a warrant for Evans. He was arrested and also cited for operating a vehicle without a license or insurance.
While the scene was being cleared, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet checked the bridge for damage before reopening it to traffic just after 6 p.m.
