US 51 in downtown Clinton is back open after the first phase of demolition of a collapsed building was accomplished on Saturday.
US 51 had been closed since the previous Saturday, July 6 when part of the east wall of the building collapsed and sent bricks and debris into the street. The wall collapsed further and more of the surrounding streets had to be closed for the rest of the week while the property owner arranged for demolition.
Semis and other highway traffic were forced to wind through Clinton's smaller neighborhood streets during the closure.
The cleanup phase of the debris is scheduled to begin on Monday.
You can see several more pictures and video of portions of the demolition at The Hickman County Times Facebook page.
