This winter you'll be getting familiar with some new terms to talk about how cold it is outside.

The National Weather Service has changed the names of its extreme cold weather products.

Wind chill advisories are now renamed cold weather advisory.

The wind chill warnings are now called extreme cold warnings.

These products will have slightly different values, depending on which part of our region you're located.

For counties generally north and west of Paducah, a cold weather advisory will be issued for a forecast of temperatures or wind chills of -5 degrees or colder. An extreme cold warning will be issued for a forecast of -15 degrees or colder.

For counties south and east of Paducah, a cold weather advisory will be issued for a forecast of temperatures or wind chills of zero degrees or colder. An extreme cold warning will be issued for a forecast of -10 degrees or colder.

In middle Tennessee from Clarksville south, a cold weather advisory will be issued for a forecast of temperatures or wind chills of five degrees or colder. An extreme cold warning will be issued for a forecast of -5 degrees or colder.
