The City of Hopkinsville launched their new downtown entertainment district over the weekend.

The change is part of revitalization efforts to bring more foot traffic downtown by allowing patrons to carry alcoholic beverages outdoors from local businesses in the historic downtown area.

Patrons in the designated area will be able to carry their alcoholic beverages from store to store as they socialize and shop from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The drinks have to be in a specific cup that’s available at participating stores.

The venture is much like Paducah's entertainment district that opened in 2021. Many other Kentucky cities have also followed the trend, including Bowling Green and Owensboro.

After the current "soft opening," a formal celebration of the Hopkinsville Downtown Entertainment District will take place on August 23.
