Calloway exits girls state tourney with opening loss to Assumption

The Calloway County Lady Lakers ran up against one of the best defensive performances of the season, as Assumption prevailed 75-32 in the opening round of the girls state basketball tournament Wednesday at Rupp Arena.

Assumption held Calloway to three scoreless stretches of several minutes apiece. They controlled the boards, and forced an uncharacteristic 19 Laker turnovers.

Sayler Lowe paced the Lady Lakers with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Jaidan Koch contributed 10, including 6-6 free throws.

Calloway closes an epic season at 33-3, which included a perfect 26-0 start and a Class 2A midseason state title.
