Graves County High School freshmen for the 2015-16 school year may pick up their schedules in the school’s front office/commons between 8:00 am and noon Friday, July 31.

“Camp GCHS” begins that afternoon at 3:00 pm, starting in the Performing Arts Center, located at the entrance closest to the intersection of Ky. Highway 121 and the Purchase Parkway.

“Orientation will begin with a brief overview of freshman life, expectations and mentor introductions in the PAC,” said Freshman Academy principal Scott Bradley. “Students then will be escorted over to Oak Hills Swim and Racquet Club, where they will enjoy swimming, ping pong, basketball, volleyball, cake and ice cream.”

The swim party has become a tradition for the school’s freshman orientation in recent years. “We realize the transition from middle to high school brings some changes,” Bradley said. “So, we’ve expanded our orientation over time, introduced new freshmen to mentors who can help them learn about their new surroundings and expectations throughout the school year, and added the swim party to start the year in a fun way. We believe all those things help.”

An orientation for parents is scheduled in the PAC, starting at 5:30 pm. It ends around 6:10 pm and parents can pick up their children at Oak Hills at that time.
