Sedalia Elementary School music teacher Stephenie Wheeler has been voted by her peers as the Elementary Music Teacher of the Year in the First District of the Kentucky Music Educators Association.

“The KMEA asked each district to select a Music Teacher of the Year for Elementary, Middle School, High School, and College/University. Stephenie was nominated by one of her colleagues who recognized her passion and dedication to the profession, which is evident in her students' level of musical ability in the classroom and on stage,” said Carrie Rogers, elementary music chair of KMEA’s first district. “Stephenie will be presented with a plaque at the fall First District KMEA meeting in August. She was nominated and selected from all of the elementary music teachers in the first district, which includes [all public schools in the counties of] Fulton, Ballard, Graves, Marshall, Calloway, McCracken, Lyon, Crittenden, Hickman, Carlisle, Trigg, and Livingston. The award recognizes excellence in the field of music education.”

“I am honored that my colleagues nominated and selected me for this award,” Wheeler said. “My Sedalia students constantly inspire me to improve my teaching. They always exceed my expectations and rise to meet any challenges I give them. I am thankful to be at Sedalia where parents, colleagues, and my principal are very supportive of our music program. I appreciate being a Graves County music teacher where I am given resources, time, and support to help students achieve musically at their highest levels.”
