Goodbye Days will be the topic for a book discussion at West Kentucky Community and Technical College April 11 from 11 am to noon in WKCTC's Matheson Library. Director of Library Services Amy Sullivan will lead the discussion.
Zentner will follow up the book discussion with a visit to WKCTC for a public presentation April 23, also from 11 am to noon in the library. He will discuss Goodbye Days as well as The Serpent King and his new book as time allows. He will also answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his books.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Zentner came to writing through music, starting his creative life as a guitarist and eventually becoming a songwriter. He's released five albums and appeared on recordings with Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Thurston Moore, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan, and Lydia Lunch, among others.
He became interested in writing for young adults after volunteering at the Tennessee Teen Rock Camp and Southern Girls Rock Camp. As a kid, his parents would take him to the library and drop him off, where he would read until closing time.
Zentner is the winner of the William C. Morris Award, the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award, the International Literacy Association Award, and the Westchester Fiction Award. His books have been nominated and longlisted for the Carnegie Medal, and he has been a finalist for the Indies Choice Award and the Southern Book Prize, and been named a Publishers Weekly Flying Start.
His books and audiobooks are available for checkout at Matheson Library and McCracken County Public Library. They are also for sale at WKCTC's bookstore.
