The Red Cross says summer blood supplies are at a critically low level in our area, but there are several opportunites to donate in the next several days.

Red Cross board member Jennifer Rukavina spoke with Greg Dunker on Monday. Rukavina said, "The big need right now is blood donation, they are critically low. Summer is a very difficult time for the Red Cross. They are critically low right now to the point where they've got more blood going out than coming in."

Rukavina said, "You can find a blood drive anytime of the year, go to RedCrossBlood.org and put in your zip code to see what is scheduled for the next 60 to 90 days in your community."

You can also donate anytime that fits their schedule, seven days a week, by appointment at the Blood Center behind Flamingo Row in Paducah.

Several local blood drives are scheduled this month. They include:

Thursday August 8th, from 1 to 6 p.m. at New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Benton and at Northside Church of Christ in Mayfield.

Friday, August 9th, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Fredonia Mennonite Church.

Sunday, August 11th, from 8 a.m. to noon at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lone Oak.

Monday, August 12th, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lone Oak First Baptist Church and at First Baptist Church in Metropolis.

Thursday, August 15th, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ballard County Cooperative Extension Office in La Center and at First Presbyterian Church in Murray.
