Hazel man charged with damaging property with axe after fight

A Hazel man is facing multiple felony charges after an incident Friday morning.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a home on Killdeer Trail in Hazel at around 4 a.m. on Friday where two men had been fighting.

Deputies learned that after the fight, 31-year-old Jose Trinidad Avila took an axe and damaged the front door of the home, a vehicle on the property and other items.

They also discovered that Avila had taken a large sum of money.

Avila was arrested and lodged at the Calloway County Detention Facility, charged with theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and assault.
