The National Weather Service says that a break in the extreme heat is now in the forecast, but it's still almost a week away.
A heat advisory remains in effect for the entire Quad State through Friday night. Afternoon heat indices will reach 100 to around 105 degrees each day.
The excessive heat may continue through the weekend and into Monday, but there is a slightly better chance that isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue each day, providing limited relief to a few areas.
The coverage of showers and storms is expected to increase this weekend and into early next week.
A true break from the heat and excessive humidity is set to arrive by the middle of next week.
