It’s a waiting game for authorities as an autopsy report is prepared and DNA information is processed in the case of the remains located on property off Broyles Avenue last week.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office called in a special forensic team from the University of Tennessee to recover those skeletal remains. That team was brought in for their expertise in preserving any potential evidence at the scene and with the remains. Detectives had been investigating the possibility of the remains on that property for several months. The remains were sent off for autopsy, but that report is not yet complete.

McCracken County Sheriff Ryan Norman told West Kentucky Star that he believes the case is more than likely about alleged benefits fraud and the concealment of a death. He said the information, so far, does not indicate foul play.

Norman said, “We believe we know exactly who the remains belong to, but again, we have to go through the proper steps to be 100% certain about that.”

The property had at one time been a part of an investigation in relation to animal cruelty, and in the course of that investigation, detectives were looking into financial aspects of the case and came across some things that “seemed strange.” Following up on that information ultimately led to the discovery of those remains.

Norman added, “I don’t expect to get confirmation on the identity anytime soon. Most likely, the DNA process will take several months.”
