A Benton, Illinois man was arrested this week after allegedly passing a bad check written for nearly $160,000 on the purchase of a boat from a McCracken County business.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said they were contacted Tuesday by the business who said the suspect, 24-year-old Travis Reichmann, gave them a check for the purchase of a 24-foot boat. Several days later the business was informed that funds were insufficient to cover the check.
While investigating, deputies were contacted by a manager stating he had heard from someone in Illinois who was familiar with Riechmann and was inquiring about the boat. Deputies also learned that the boat had been seen on Rend Lake in Illinois, 20-30 minutes prior to the citizen calling.
McCracken County deputies contacted Franklin County, Illinois deputies who located the boat in a slip at a marina and later located Riechmann.
Riechmann was charged in Illinois for possession of a stolen vehicle. The boat and trailer were returned to the business from which it was purchased.
Riechmann could also face McCracken County charges in the case.
