2.4 Earthquake Reported in West McCracken County

A magnitude 2.4 earthquake was reported along the New Madrid Fault Line Thursday evening in western McCracken County.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey at the University of Memphis, the quake was centered 4 miles northeast of Kevil, and 12 miles west northwest of Paducah. It occurred at 6:34 pm.

The USGS says that a quake of 2.5 is the threshold of humans being able to detect the ground shaking. However West Kentucky Star has received reports from Marshall County that the quake was felt there.
