The westbound I-24 ramp at exit 7 in Lone Oak was blocked for about two hours Wednesday evening, causing severe traffic back-ups on the interstate.

A semi tractor-trailer jack-knifed about 4:40 pm on the ramp during a brief round of intense thunderstorms.

Westbound drivers who wanted to leave the interstate at exit 7 had to continue to exit 3, which was already congested because it was being used as a detour from exit 4, where the ramps are closed for construction.

By 5 pm, westbound traffic on I-24 was backed up to the overpass at Alben Barkley Drive.

The tractor-trailer was removed and the scene was cleared by 6:45 pm.
