Mark your calendars to attend AQS QuiltWeek right here in Paducah, April 24-27, to experience a world of quilting like only AQS can offer.
Registration is now open and here’s a highlight of what AQS QuiltWeek has to offer in Paducah:
AQS Quilt Contest
Quilters across the world dream of having their work included in the AQS Quilt Contest in Paducah. Whether it’s the hope of earning $20,000 for the Janome Best of Show award or having their work added to the collection of The National Quilt Museum, the greatest prize a quilter can win is a ribbon at the Paducah show. Each year, the quality of artistry and workmanship in the competition quilts gets better and better. You won’t want to miss this year’s collection.
Return of Stitch Like an Egyptian – Tentmakers of Cairo
Since being introduced to the appliqué work of the Tentmakers of Cairo, audiences in the U.S. can’t get enough of their work. While the international news headlines are filled with political unrest in Cairo, just a few short blocks away the men of the marketplace of the tentmakers are steadily stitching amazing works of art with peaceful precision.
AQS is the exclusive representative of the Tentmakers of Cairo in the US, and has purchased over 140 of their works for display and sale. Curator Jenny Bowker and AQS have selected 80 of the best works for display in Paducah – none of which have been seen in the US before. The works on display are also available for purchase, so be one of the first through the doors for the best selection.
Beneath the Southern Sky
On the heels of the North American debut, AQS and Brenda Gael Smith present an exclusive exhibit of 30 one-of-a-kind works. Each of the pieces was created specifically for the exhibit, Beneath the Southern Sky by artists from four continents. This exciting exhibit highlights the creativity and passion of quilters around the globe. Plus, Brenda will be at AQS QuiltWeek to meet with visitors. Stay tuned for more!
National Debut from the National Quilt Museum
Each year, the National Quilt Museum issues an invitation-only quilt challenge, to create a unique touring exhibit. Invited quiltmakers use only fabrics donated by the challenge’s sponsors, Hancock’s of Paducah an MODA Fabrics, plus one other fabric, to create unique and engaging wall quilts. The resulting works of the Pilgrim/Roy Invitational Challenge make their world debut at AQS QuiltWeek in Paducah.
Following the debut, the exhibit tours the country, ending the journey in Paducah at The National Quilt Museum Benefit Auction. Come to AQS QuiltWeek in Paducah to see the debut of this new collection, and place a bid on a piece of history in the quilt auction.
AQS Authors’ Invitational Exhibit
Many of quilting’s best are both quilters and nationally recognized instructors and authors. Works from 20 of the leading authors in quilting will have works on display in an invitation-only exhibition. See the work from these exceptionally gifted artists, including those featured in their published books.
Admission to all exhibits is FREE to AQS QuiltWeek attendees with their show admission.
