McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of the new bridge around 4 pm Monday. Upon arrival, they discovered that four vehicles were involved.
Following an investigation, Deputies say, 30-year-old Winter Petway of Calvert City was driving West on Kentucky Dam Road. The woman failed to notice stopped vehicles as she approached a newly installed stoplight.
Petway told deputies, her brakes weren’t the best, and she tried to stop before hitting the vehicles waiting in line.
Petway rear ended a 2006 Ford Mustang operated by 29-year-old Brandy Atkinson of Clarksville.
The impact caused Atkinson to hit a 1997 Ford Escort operated by 35-year-old Jason Howell of Symsonia.
Howell was forced into a 2005 Nissan Maxima operated by 45-year-old John Fonza of Murray.
There were no injures at the crash but Petway was arrested and charged with driving on a DUI suspended license, failure to maintain required insurance and careless driving.
Deputies remind motorist to be alert in the area of the new intersection. They say congestion may occur, and drivers should modify their driving habits accordingly.
