PADUCAH, KY - Two Lyon County teens and one juvenile have been arrested in connection to the robbery earlier this month of Walgreens Pharmacy on Lone Oak Road in Paducah.
Paducah Police say two brothers, 18-year-old Delquan Copeland and 19-year-old Delvonte Copeland, both of Eddyville, are charged with first-degree robbery and kidnapping. They were arrested at the McCracken County Courthouse at 9 am Wednesday when they showed up for a court appearance on unrelated charges.
Officers were called just before 4:30 am on August 7 to a reported robbery at Walgreens. A clerk stated that two men, dressed in black, came into the store, displayed handguns, and ordered her to open the cash register. The men took an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes, then ran from the store toward Alben Barkley Drive.
Detectives reviewed surveillance video and followed up on leads, one of which led them to obtain a search warrant for a home in Lyon County. There officers recovered two handguns believed used in the Walgreens robbery.
After their arrests, Delquan and Delvonte Copeland were interviewed at the police department, then booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail. A juvenile was charged with complicity to robbery in connection to the case.
The Copeland brothers are charged with kidnapping because they allegedly forced a Walgreens clerk at gunpoint from the middle of the store to the front cash register. Kentucky statutes allow for the kidnapping charge when someone's movement is restricted by threat or coercion, or when they are physically moved to commit a felony.
