Two local restaurants announced over the weekend that they are closing, and the owners will be repurposing those locations for other ventures.

A sign posted on the door of Tribeca Mexican Cuisine on Market House Square says the restaurant will close January 1, 2020.

The owners, Paul Gourieux and Jorge Martinez, plan to use the Tribeca space more closely with 1857 Hotel on Kentucky Avenue and 1857 Guest House, which is above Tribeca. The two men own those businesses, too.

As for their other restaurant, JP's Bar and Grill, it will be converted into a unique establishment in Paducah - an axe-throwing venue.

Axe throwing began as a competition for lumberjacks but has recently become popular in cities around the world. Competitions are similar to dart-throwing, and some cities have axe-throwing leagues. In fact, there is a National Axe Throwing Foundation and a World Axe Throwing League.

Paducah Axe Throwing should open sometime in early 2020.

Fans of the two restaurants have been assured on Facebook that some of their favorite dishes will still be available at the new venue, and live music will also be offered, as before.
