According to their website, Bluegrass Downs was to close on Tuesday, October 1, but KFVS-TV reports that Sunday was the last day of operations at the track.
In a statement, Caesar's Entertainment said after careful deliberations, they decided to close the track and let its racing license expire. Severance packages were given to all eligible employees.
The track opened in the mid-1980s as a quarter horse race track, converted to thoroughbreds in the early 1990s and then to harness racing in 1998. The track has had a short season of live racing each summer, but has mainly hosted simulcast races.
In the 1990s, the track hosted several big-name entertainers for concerts, including The Judds, Restless Heart and Smokey Robinson.
