Cartwright Named Interim McCracken Superintendent
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH - McCracken County Schools has named Heath Cartwright as Interim Superintendent.

The McCracken County School Board held an emergency meeting Monday at noon. After returning from an executive session, the board voted on a motion to appoint Cartwright, and it passed by a vote of 4-1.

After the meeting, Board Chairman Steve Shelby was asked why he didn't call the meeting.

"It was called by board members for noon. I wanted to hold the meeting at 4:30 pm, so teachers and staff could attend," Shelby said. He said he wanted the meeting held later for the sake of increased transparency to everyone.

Cartwright has been employed by McCracken County Schools for several years as Assistant Superintendent. He will serve in the role until June 30.

The school district accepted the resignation of Superintendent Brian Harper on Friday. They hope to hire a permanent replacement for a term beginning July 1.
