The Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce has sent a letter to one of its own members, over concern about how much that member is charging customers for their services.

The chairwoman of the Chamber, Deborah Edmonds, sent a letter to Paducah Power System this week regarding the "recent spike in power costs to Paducah Power customers."  The letter, addressed to Paducah Power general manager David Clark, says its members are concerned about the amount Paducah Power is charging for electricity.

"As the region's largest business advocacy organization, the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce is well aware of our members' concerns regarding the recent spike in power costs to Paducah Power customers." the letter says.  The letter went on to say, "The Chamber represents more than 1,000 businesses in our community.  As you know, power costs are a key component of economic success not only for our members but the community as a whole.  To that end, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce and our members, we strongly urge the management and Board of Paducah Power to evaluate all possible avenues to obtain more stable and competitive electric rates for its customers."

The letter further says the chamber appreciates the support Paducah Power has provided to the Chamber and to the community, and they (the Chamber) are confident that "the Paducah Power Board understand(s) the concerns of the business community regarding this issue."

The letter is also asking the Board members and General Manager of Paducah Power to talk with the Chamber regarding the high rates.

Clark is expected to address the Paducah city commission during their meeting on Tuesday, September 23, about the rates.

A representative of Paducah Power declined to comment to West Kentucky Star, saying Paducah Power will respond directly to the Chamber regarding the letter.
