The City of Paducah is encouraging area residents who were unable to attend the Storm Water Master Plan public meeting on June 19 to submit their data regarding storm water events on their property.

About 65 people attended the first public meeting at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. At that meeting, McCracken County residents shared their storm water stories, photos, and concerns in addition to ideas to help solve storm water issues.

Two more public meetings are set, the first being sometime this fall.

Residents are encouraged to provide as much information as possible about each flooding event that affected their business or home, along with photos showing the extent of flooding in addition to the date of the rain event and the property’s address.

A questionnaire is available online at http://paducahky.gov/storm-water-master-plan and at the following link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/paducahcsmp.  The public is encouraged to complete the questionnaire no later than August 1.

Photos, the questionnaire, and firsthand accounts also can be submitted through email at stormwateranddrainage@paducahky.gov.

“I want to thank the dozens of residents who attended the public meeting and shared their documentation about storm water events. This input and participation are vital in preparing a master plan that addresses the needs and concerns of the community.” Paducah City Engineer & Public Works Director Rick Murphy said.

Murphy added that he was pleased to hear from the residents that they are supportive of the plan, and that he realizes that this is a community effort to identify the problem areas, research possible solutions, and determine the appropriate level of service for the storm water issues.

Professional Engineer Mike Woolum with Strand Associates said, “On behalf of the CSMP Project Team, we are truly grateful for the positive turnout at the first of three planned public meetings. The feedback we received was extremely insightful and clearly demonstrated the serious impacts certain areas of the community are experiencing from storm water flooding.  The photographs and information that was shared will help inform the study and development of solutions designed to mitigate flooding in targeted problem areas.”

In March, the City of Paducah contracted with Strand Associates, Inc. who is being assisted by Paducah-based Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering & Testing, Inc. to complete a Comprehensive Storm Water Master Plan for Paducah.
