Donate to Tornado Victims Today at Walmart

A local resident and other volunteers are doing their part to help collect donations for victims of the recent Nashville area tornado.

Heather Thompson says she and others will be at the Hinkleville Road Walmart parking lot on Wednesday from 12 to 5 p.m. collecting items to be sent to help with the relief efforts to assist those affected by the storm that killed two dozen people and destroyed many area homes and businesses.

"Non-perishable food, toys, clothes, anything and everything that anybody can donate. Water is important, stuff for children is important. If you can give whatever you can give, that will be appreciated." She said.

Thompson says they will also accept Walmart gift cards, which they will use to purchase items to help the victims.

"We've made three trips to Nashville so far," Thompson said. "But we are still in need, because stuff is going as fast as you can bring it in."

Thompson said there will be balloons and signs in the parking lot to help attract attention to the donation location.
