The City of Paducah Parks and Recreation Department has cancelled the 2020 Easter Eggstravaganza which was scheduled to take place at the end of the month.
The event was scheduled to take place on March 30 at Noble Park, and typically attracts more than 1,000 participants and adults. A press release from the City of Paducah said the event was cancelled due to concerns voiced by the Centers for Disease Control regarding the coronavirus.
"We do not want to do anything that could tend to exacerbate the possibility of spreading the coronavirus in our community," said Parks and Recreation Director Mark Thompson. "Bringing more than 1,000 of our friends and neighbors together in relatively close quarters for the Easter Eggstravaganza could do just that.”
The Parks and Recreation Department will instead give away the more than 15,000 candy-filled eggs to schools, churches, and non-profit community organizations for use at their smaller events.
Representatives of those organizations can call the Parks and Recreation Office at 270-444-8508 to reserve eggs on a first call, first served basis. Eggs can be reserved in batches of 250 up to a maximum of 1,000 per organization.
