A former elder at a West Paducah church has entered a not guilty plea to charges that he sent sexually explicit messages to a minor.

According to McCracken County Circuit Court Clerk, 54-year-old Frederick Daack pled not guilty Thursday to one count of using an electronic communication system to procure a minor regarding a sex offense. Police said their investigation revealed that while serving as an elder at Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church between October 2012 and January 2013, Daack had illegal and inappropriate communications by phone and via text messages with a juvenile that attended the church. Police said the communications were sexual in nature.

These instances were reportedly uncovered by sheriff’s detectives while conducting a separate investigation involving rape allegations against 44-year-old Michael Parsons, a former youth leader at the church. Parsons faces charges of distribution of obscene matter, 3rd degree rape, 3rd degree sodomy, and 10 counts of unlawful use of an electronic device to procure a minor in a sexual performance.

Both cases will be handled by special prosecutor Carrie Ovey-Wiggins. Daack's pretrial conference for has been set for June 8.
